Accessibility, Inclusion, and Participation

  • Awareness of Different Lifestyles and Realities – The University Library promotes an open, respectful, and non-discriminatory environment for everyone.
  • Free Access for External Users – The libraries at Freie Universität are open free of charge not only to university members but also to external users.
  • Multilingual training sessions and guided tours – Information and advisory services are offered in various languages.
  • Personalized assistance with accessing resources – Upon request, staff members provide personal assistance with research, borrowing, and accessing resources. (Shelf assistance)
  • Parent-child rooms – Spaces for anyone visiting the library with a child—for learning, working, or conducting research.
  • Psychological counseling sessions in library spaces – Low-threshold counseling services directly at the learning location.
  • Provision of visual aids and assistive technology – Support for people with diverse needs. This is based, among other things, on user research aimed at the inclusive redesign of learning spaces.
  • UX study on neurodivergent students – The User Research Unit examines the needs of neurodivergent students regarding the library in order to further develop services and spaces.
  •  Accessible websites – Websites are designed to be as accessible and user-friendly as possible.
  • Inclusive workspace in the campus library – A specially designed space for focused work tailored to individual needs.
