Public sector procurement in Germany amounts to more than 350 billion euros annually — a considerable weight that gives public institutions like Freie Universität Berlin an important role in steering procurement toward greater sustainability. Especially in times of tight financial resources, reuse offerings are becoming increasingly important.

The event, led by Janet Wagner and Ina Schulze in cooperation with the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Action and the Environment, is open to all Freie Universität Berlin staff. On November 5, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:30 am, participants can expect a lively mix of short talks and a walk across the Dahlem campus.

The focus is on the "6 R's" of reuse, along with a campus walk to existing offerings such as Foodsharing, FUndgrube, FURad, and the furniture depot (Möbellager). The event will also introduce the State of Berlin's ReUse strategy, including a CO2 calculator and best-practice examples from Berlin and the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district.

By the end of the event, participants will have an overview of reuse offerings on the Dahlem campus, be familiar with the State of Berlin's ReUse concept, and take away concrete ideas for their own area of work.
