The Peter Szondi Institute for General and Comparative Literature at Freie Universität Berlin annually awards the August Wilhelm von Schlegel Visiting Professorship for the Poetics of Translation in the German-speaking World. In the upcoming winter semester, translator Larissa Bender, one of the most important mediators of Arabic-language literature in Germany, will assume the position. Her public inaugural lecture will take place on November 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Refugio Berlin.
