Establishment of the René Pollesch Visiting Professorship at Freie Universität Berlin
News from Feb 26, 2026
Freie Universität Berlin, in cooperation with the Willms Neuhaus Foundation – Zufall und Gestaltung (Berlin), is establishing a René Pollesch visiting professorship at the Institute for Theater Studies. The professorship is intended to honor the work of the influential theater maker and to strengthen the exchange between academic research and artistic practice.
Drama writer and director Sivan Ben Yishai will be the first to hold the René Pollesch visiting professorship. Her texts deal with the specific conventions of writing and question the present, according to theater scholar at Freie Universität Berlin and jury chairman Jan Lazardzig, “in a similarly unapologetic manner as René Pollesch.”
Further information can be found in the press release from Freie Universität Berlin.
