Teaching and Education Day 2026: Developing Future Skills in Higher Education

This year’s Teaching and Education Day is dedicated to exploring how university teaching can be designed today, with an eye to an unpredictable future. How can we support students in thinking critically and reflectively, as well as being agile and resilient when facing change? How can we develop and demonstrate these abilities ourselves?

The event will begin with a keynote by Prof. Dr. Tobias Seidl on the topic of developing future skills in university teaching. “Future skills” are less about a fixed set of individual abilities and more about an open concept for dealing with complexity, uncertainty, and change in a globalized and digitally shaped society.

Throughout the day, you can join in hands-on teaching workshops, presentations, and discussions with students and colleagues from across campus, as well as participate in an interactive panel with this year’s nominees and the recipient of the Berlin State Teaching Excellence in Higher Education Award. We encourage you to contribute with your own experiences—whether you have examples from your own teaching and learning practice or questions and challenges that could spark discussion.

At the very heart of Teaching and Education Day is open and honest dialogue among all participants. Only by bringing together all perspectives can we collectively shape and further develop teaching and learning to thoughtfully respond to the changes of our time.
