Reregistration
For the registration renewal, every student will receive a reminder approximately four weeks before the end of the reregistration period (last Friday of the lecture period) exclusively by email to the FU-address.
Log in to your FU-student account using your username and password.
If you have not yet activated your FU-account for students (not an employee account), please do so urgently! To do this, please contact the FUB-IT customer service. Please log in in your self-service portal via the my.FU Portal. Here you get all information about the prerequisites for reregistration and the payment of the semester fees.
Note: Please note: When submitting your payment only state the purpose specified to you in your self-service portal. Do not provide any additional information. Otherwise your payment cannot be allocated.Reregistration will only take place once the full amount has been credited to the account of Freie Universität Berlin and all other requirements have been met. Please note that the semester fees must be credited to the account of Freie Universität Berlin by the deadline and take into account any bank transit times (also for online transfers). Otherwise, the deregistration procedure will be initiated.
If you miss the deadline, a late fee will be charged. This fee will be included in the amount displayed in the self-service portal. Please only transfer the amount shown in the self service portal!
The late fee does not apply if a change of degree program is requested for the following semester, e.g. when changing from a bachelor's to a master's degree.
After reregistration, you can download proof of enrollment and fee receipts via the self-service portal. Your documents remain in the self-service portal for the duration of your enrollment and can be accessed at any time. You should save these documents.
You will be notified by email regarding the validation of your Campuscard.
For the deadlines of the upcoming reregistration periods, please refer to the Academic Calendar.

Temporary enrollment in a master's program is also possible before the bachelor's degree is available (please see also our admission website). Please note, however, that the degree must be submitted for renewal of the registration into the 2nd semester.
Please pay the semester fees within the respective deadline (for the summer semester by approx. mid-February, for the winter semester by approx. mid-July) and submit the certificate until the end of your first master semester.
If you study the bachelor´s program at FU:
If you were enrolled temporarily on a master’s course (student status on your enrollment certificate: „Befristet wg. BA Zeugnis“) and have meanwhile obtained your bachelor’s degree at FU, this degree will be transmitted by the examinations office of your department. In this case, you do not need to send us your bachelor's certificate via email.
If you do not obtain the degree in time and you have studied the bachelor´s program at Freie Universität Berlin, you can apply for downgrading to the bachelor's program so that you won’t be removed from the register of students at the end of the 1st semester due to missing reregistration requirements. To do so, please submit the application for changing degree programs. Downgrading to the bachelor's degree program may have consequences, e.g. for student fundings.
If you study the bachelor´s program at another university:
If you have been enrolled temporarily on a master’s course (student status on enrollment certificate: „Befristet wg. BA Zeugnis") and have meanwhile obtained your bachelor’s degree at another university, please upload your bachelor's degree certificate during the respective period in the self-service portal. If you are unable to upload it, please send us a copy of your degree certificate by email, stating your student ID number (info-service@fu-berlin.de).
- Students who wish to continue their studies at FU in the next semester can reregister and transfer the fees to the reregistration account by the reregistration deadline, regardless of admission.
- If you only want to reregister for the new degree program and would deregister in the event of non-admission, you should wait for admission, as the administrative fee will not be refunded if you will be deregistered after reregistration has already taken place. The late fee will be waived in the event of a change of subject or degree objective.
- If you do not know whether reregistration is necessary because your current studies have not yet been completed, you should contact your examinations office.
If your main university is Freie Universität Berlin (where you pay your semester fees) and you are additionally enrolled at another university in Berlin or Brandenburg, you must upload a certificate of enrollment/study certificate from the other university for the current semester with subject details in the self-service portal of the Student Administration Office within the reregistration deadline.
Please be sure to observe the respective reregistration deadlines, as a late fee will be charged if the deadline is missed. When transferring the late fee, please indicate the Student ID number of Freie Universität Berlin. If you do not reregister, removal from the register of students will be initiated.
If the other university is the Fernuniversität Hagen (Hagen Distance Learning University), you do not need to upload a certificate of enrollment.
Examples for certificates of enrollment are mentioned below:
Humboldt Universität, Technische Universität, Universität der Künste
In order to reregister as a multiple enrolled student for the next semester, a certificate of enrollment for the subsequent semester from your main university with subject details must be uploaded in the self-service portal of the Student Administration Office by March 31st or September 30th respectively.
Examples for certificates of enrollment are mentioned below:
Humboldt Universität Technische Universität Universität der Künste
No, you can apply for the removal from the register of students via the self-service portal either on a specific date or effective at the end of the semester. Please remember to download all important certificates.
Please note:
The Campuscard becomes invalid upon removal from the register of students. Your Campuscard must be destroyed immediately if you wish to remove yourself from the register of students at a desired date before the end of the semester (e.g., today or any future date).
Please also note that you will lose your student status starting the day after removal from the register of students. This may have consequences for e.g. your health insurance or student financing.
Admission to a doctoral degree is granted for a specified standard time to degree. In general, the standard time to degree for doctoral degrees is eight semesters. Exceptions to the standard period of study are doctorates in law, which take ten semesters, and doctorates in veterinary medicine, which take six semesters, or another period specified in the admission letter. After the standard time to degree has expired, approval for an extension issued by the doctoral office must be submitted in order to maintain enrollment.
