Borrowing Media

In the Primo library portal, you can check the location, call number, and availability of all items in the University Library. After logging in, you can view loan periods and request options. You can place requests for available items. You can place holds on items that are currently checked out.

  • Standard lending period: 4 weeks
  • Renewal: possible, provided there are no holds on the item
  • Maximum lending period: 6 months; after that, the item must be returned
  • Renewals can be made online via Primo or by phone at (030) 838-522 65
  • Interlibrary lending: Lending period varies; renewals only according to the lending library’s guidelines

Returned late?
Late fees apply if the lending period is exceeded. Details can be found on the University Library’s website.

  • Items with open-access call numbers can be viewed directly in the open stacks (1st floor) or the reading room (2nd floor)
  • You can also place a request via Primo

Pickup locations can be selected when placing an order in Primo (the Philological Library and Charité Libraries are excluded). Delivery to another library takes 1–2 days, and you will be notified by email.

  • Ordered media in stock: Pick up in about 1 hour during business hours
  • Delivery time from other locations/remote stacks: approx. 1 day (Mon–Fri)

You will always receive a pickup notification via email. The items you ordered will be available for pickup for five business days.

Media currently on loan can be reserved. You will receive an email notification as soon as they become available.

  • FU Media: Returns can be made at all University Library service desks (except Charité libraries).
  • Interlibrary Loans: Returns must be made at the Central Library.
  • Return boxes at the main entrance (Garystr. 39) are available outside of opening hours; items will be processed on the next business day.
