Doctoral candidates are required to make their theses appropriately available to the academic community through publication and distribution (Kultusministerkonferenz decision of 30 October 1997: "Grundsätze für die Veröffentlichung von Dissertationen").
In every individual case, specifics related to publication apply, as laid out in the respective department's doctoral graduation regulations in place at the time of admission to the doctoral program. Deviations from such regulations, if at all admissable, require a department-board (Fachbereichsrat) decision (cf. legal foundation).

We will gladly accept your research data for publication. However, if there is an established disciplinary repository available for your area of research, we advise you to publish your data there. In that case, we would very much appreciate your informing us of your publication on the disciplinary repository. We will then reproduce the metadata on Refubium and link to your data from there. You can find a directory of disciplinary repositories at re3data. The University Library staff will gladly assist you with selecting a suitable repository.

All published research data will be archived for at least ten years.

Students of the Freie Universiät Berlin have the possibility to submit and publish their theses like bachelor- and master theses in our institutional repository, Refubium. 
By accepting the publication agreement you allow a long term archiving of your document. Furthermore you agree to the worldwide availability.

The terms of submission according to the currently applicable study and examination regulations of Freie Universität Berlin remain unaffected. (see also https://www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/studienorganisation/pruefung/index.html).

For the inclusion of student theses in Refubium a recommendation of the supervisors of the work is necessary. An example of the recommendation can be found here.

• Freie Universität Berlin: Enter date of last oral examination.

When publishing dissertations, the certificate for “Submission and Approval of Publication” can only be issued to you after the embargo period has expired. Exceptions to this rule are the departments of Veterinary Medicine and Biology, Chemistry.
