Final Account: Third Reich Testimonies
Freie Universität Berlin provides access to the interview collection “Final Account: Third Reich Testimonies.” This significant historical record was compiled between 2008 and 2017 by British documentary filmmaker Luke Holland.
The collection comprises 295 video interviews with men and women born between 1905 and 1934. Holland interviewed primarily Germans and Austrians, but also people from other countries, about their memories of and involvement in National Socialism, the Holocaust, and World War II.
In addition to interviews with former members of the SS and the Wehrmacht, as well as secretaries and employees in Nazi organizations and the military, the collection also includes accounts from farmworkers and housewives. Their memories offer a unique insight into everyday life in Nazi Germany, as well as the interviewees’ reflections on responsibility, complicity, and guilt.
Thanks to a collaboration with University College London, the Wiener Holocaust Library, the Institute National de l'Audiovisuel, the Pears Foundation, and Luke Holland’s ZEF Productions, these interviews are available for access at the Central Library of Freie Universität Berlin.
Interested users may access the archive after registering via email and signing a usage agreement in Room 118G of the Central Library, Garystr. 39, 14195 Berlin.
