Which European countries can I undertake an Erasmus+ stay in?
The Erasmus+ programme enables employees of our university to undertake funded stays in 32 European countries.
These include:
- 26 EU Member States (all EU countries except Germany)
- 6 third countries associated with the programme: Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Türkiye
Important special cases & exceptions
- United Kingdom (UK): In the previous programme generation (2014–2020), the UK was a regular programme country. In the current generation (2021–2027), it acts as a partner country (non-associated third country) through the end of 2026. Outlook: From 1 June 2027, mobility activities involving the UK and Switzerland are expected to become eligible for regular funding again.
- Switzerland: Switzerland is currently not officially participating in Erasmus+ (subject to participation being opened from 1 June 2027). However, current stays at Swiss partner universities can often be funded directly by the host institution through the Swiss equivalent, the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP). Please contact your relevant contact person at the host institution for further information.
- Outermost regions: The so-called Outermost Regions (e.g. the Canary Islands, the Azores, Madeira, and French Guiana) are formally part of EU countries. Please note, however, that particularly for language courses, destinations on the European mainland are generally approved for sustainability reasons.
