Hilde Domin Programme
Freie Universität Berlin is pleased to support qualified candidates for the DAAD Hilde Domin Programme through the nomination process. In order to ensure that nominated candidates have the necessary academic basis to pursue their intended degree programme at Freie Universität Berlin, we first need to verify that the formal requirements for applying to the respective programme are met.
Therefore, before contacting us regarding a possible nomination, please complete the steps described below for the Master’s or doctoral programme for which you wish to be nominated.
Master’s programme
First, identify the Master’s programme you would like to study at Freie Universität Berlin and carefully check its admission requirements.
If the Master’s programme is taught in German, please make sure that you also meet the required German-language requirements before contacting us. If you do not have the required German-language skills, please consult our overview of Master’s programmes taught in English.
Once you have identified a suitable Master’s programme, please contact the respective programme coordinator and ask them to assess your academic documents and qualifications according to the programme’s formal admission requirements.
If the programme coordinator confirms in writing that you meet the formal requirements to apply for the programme, you may then contact us regarding a possible nomination for the Hilde Domin Programme. Please include the coordinator’s written confirmation in your email.
Doctoral studies
If you wish to pursue doctoral studies at Freie Universität Berlin, you must first identify a potential supervisor who is willing to support your proposed doctoral project.
Please contact a professor whose research is relevant to your project and provide a detailed research proposal (Exposé), your CV and the relevant academic documents.
Once you have obtained written confirmation of support from a potential supervisor, please contact the relevant Promotionsbüro of the faculty or department in which you intend to pursue your doctorate. The Promotionsbüro will assess whether your academic qualifications and documents meet the formal requirements for admission to doctoral studies.
For a possible nomination by Freie Universität Berlin, both steps must be completed: written support for your proposed doctoral project from a potential supervisor and confirmation from the relevant Promotionsbüro that you meet the formal requirements for doctoral admission.
Please note
In both cases, the written confirmation from the Master’s programme coordinator or the relevant Promotionsbüro does not constitute admission to the degree programme. It only confirms that you meet the formal requirements to apply. This confirmation is a prerequisite for Freie Universität Berlin to consider your case for a possible nomination to the DAAD Hilde Domin Programme. Admission to the degree programme is a separate application and selection process, with its own deadlines and procedures. A nomination for the DAAD Hilde Domin Programme does not replace the regular application for admission to the degree programme.
Important information regarding visa procedures
Freie Universität Berlin cannot influence or accelerate visa procedures. Visa applications and decisions are handled by the responsible German authorities. Unfortunately, the university has no authority over these procedures.
