Starting mid-October, the Wi-Fi network throughout the entirety of Freie Universität Berlin will be upgraded to the latest generation (Wi-Fi 7). This will result in connections that are significantly more stable, especially for video calls, and much more bandwidth for data-intensive applications, even when many people are online at the same time. To achieve this, Freie Universität Berlin has commissioned Deutsche Telekom to exchange roughly 1,400 access points on campus. About 200 access points will have to be upgraded each week so that the project can be completed by mid-December 2026.
During this process there may be minor disruptions to the Wi-Fi network in individual buildings. These outages shouldn’t last longer than a few hours.
You can find more information and an overview of the affected buildings here (in German).
